A Long the River Run will be launched as part of the Maitland IF Festival in a couple of weeks’ time. The launch will take place on Saturday the 22nd of October at 3pm in Studio Amsterdam at 321 High Street Maitland. It will be launched by my old friend and outstanding poet Rob Edmonds.

Rob’s Poetry Collection Gravity Doesn’t Always Work was published last year by Flying Islands Press and is available from Flying Islands. The previous year he published his novel Ghosted and it is available on Amazon.

My book will be one of several launched in an afternoon showcase of books produced by or with the assistance of Rack and Rune. Graham at Rack and Rune provides a wide range of publishing services for independent authors and he does a terrific job in supporting authors.

Other Festival Highlights

The festival itself offers an interesting program and I am looking forward to a number of events and catching up with some fellow writers. I am particularly looking forward to catching the session Risking Truth at 12 noon on the same day as my launch but at the Sun Street Studios (which is over the road and down a bit from Studio Amsterdam). This session features Rob along with fellow poet and friend, Gillian Swain and one of my favourite Australian poets, Ali Whitelock. I’ve always loved Ali’s titles, particularly her poetry volume the lactic acid in the calves of your despair and her autobiography Poking seaweed with a stick and running away from the smell. Mad Bitches are also performing at the festival featuring work by Louise Chapman and Meg Dunn amongst others. Meg and Louise are two creatives I’ve known and admired for a long time.

In addition to launching my own book, I will also be interviewing the historian and historical fiction writer Katrina Kittel about her new book Shooting Through and the various considerations required when writing narrative historical non- fiction or historical fiction.

If you haven’t picked up a copy of A Long the River Run, it will be on sale at the festival. Come along to IF and hear some great independent writers.
