On the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of October, I will be appearing a number of times at the IF Maitland Indie Writers Festival and would love to see you there.
Shooting Through
On Saturday the 22nd I will be in discussion with the historian Katrina Kittel about a range of things related to writing history but, particularly, about her new book Shooting Through. Shooting Through tells the story of group of Australian Prisoners of War who were held in Italy during World War Two and escaped when the Italians surrendered in 1943. Escaping was the easy part and it was surviving in Italy and evading capture during winter in the Alps that was the hard part.
You can read more about at Katrina’s website here.
Our discussion will be at 2pm at Studio Amsterdam 321 High Street Maitland.
A Long the River Run
Immediately after my discussion with Katrina, there will be a showcase of publications produced by Rack and Rune, including the launch of my novel A Long the River Run. I am very pleased to have my good friend and great writer, Rob Edmonds launching the book.
If you haven’t got a copy of A Long the River Run you can buy the paperback or E Book from Amazon and the paperback from Booktopia.
A Long the River Run will be launched at 3pm on Saturday the 22nd of October, also at Studio Amsterdam.
Hunter Writers Centre Showcase
On Sunday the 23rd of October at Sun Street Studios, 246 High Street Maitland, I will be joining a panel with Judith Johnson and Kathryn Bennet to discuss the annual anthologies produced by the Hunter Writers Centre. These include the Grieve anthology, the Newcastle Poetry Prize (which will be announced on the 15th of October and the recent Newcastle Short Story Prize.
I was lucky to have had my short story, The Waves, published in this year’s anthology and to pick up the Local Award as I did two years ago for my story Rumours from a War.
You can find out more about these anthologies including where to purchase them and lots more from the Hunter Writers Centre here. If you are a local writer, you might even consider joining the Centre.
Other Events
There is so much on at this year’s IF Festival including some great readings, some wonderful poetry events featuring some of my favourite poets from the region and further afield and the hardest part is deciding what to go to, particularly when there are great events on at the same time.
You do have to register for some of the events but most of them are free. You can register here.
Please check out the full program for this great event and I hope to see you in Maitland over the weekend of the festival.
